In this daily Bible reading Jesus tells the ‘Parable of the wheat and tares.’ Jesus said that the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who planted good seeds in his field. However, while the man slept, the enemy came to his field and sowed tares. As the field grew, the tares became evident.  As a result, the workers wanted to rip the tares out. However, the field owner said no. The wheat and the tares must grow together. They will be separated at harvest.

Jesus told his disciples the meaning of the parable. He told them that the Son of Man, Jesus, is the one who sowed the good seed in the field.  The devil is the enemy who sowed the tares. Moreover, the good seeds are the sons of the Kingdom, and the tares are the sons of the evil one.

In the world, there are good people and evil people. They coexist and affect each other: Good influencing bad and bad influencing good. At the end of the age, Jesus will send His angels to gather the good people into His Kingdom. Additionally, the angels will gather the evil people and consign them to torment. In God’s Kingdom evil will not be allowed. It is a place where only good people will be allowed to live.

What separates the good people from the evil people? The good people are those who believe and trust in Jesus Christ. The evil people are those who reject Jesus.  It is as simple as that.
