In this daily Bible reading is the account of Jesus miraculously feeding 5000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish. The people had come from far and wide to hear Jesus because of His healing powers and extraordinary teaching. Crowds gathered around Him wherever He went. Jesus never rejected them. He always taught them and healed those who were sick.
On this occasion, the people listened to Jesus until the day was over. Jesus’ disciples advised Jesus to send them away to get some food. However, Jesus told his disciples, “You give them something to eat.” Jesus had the people recline on the ground by groups of hundreds and fifties. He then miraculously created more food from the five loaves of bread and two fishes. Jesus gave the food to His disciples who then passed the food to the people. The people ate until they were full, and there were 12 baskets full of food left over.
This miracle paints a picture of believers sharing the Word of God with others who are spiritually hungry. Believers should share God’s Word with others when the time or situation is appropriate. Those times may be rare, so believers must be prepared to feed others spiritually.
