In this daily Bible reading Jesus says the following to his disciples. “If anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake, he is the one who will save it.”

I believe Jesus is saying that we will be faced with situations in our life where we must make a choice. The choice may involve either choosing what we perceive to be good for us or doing what the Bible tells us to do.

A good example of this is deciding what to do in a troubled marriage. We may want to go to a new partner who we think will make us feel better. However, the Bible says, “God hates divorce.” The right choice is to make our marriage work rather than divorcing to find a new partner. This choice will have a better chance of leading to happiness in one’s life.
