In this daily Bible reading is the account of Jesus being transfigured into a heavenly being in the presence of Peter, James, and John. The Bible says, “The appearance of His face became different and His clothing became white and gleaming.”

Then, Moses and Elijah appeared and talked to Jesus about “His departure which he was about to accomplish in Jerusalem.” They were speaking about Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.

I believe God sent Moses and Elijah to strengthen and encourage Jesus to endure His coming persecution. Jesus knew He faced a very painful and torturous death on a Roman cross.

Jesus was God, the son. However, He was also fully human. He would soon experience great pain and anxiety. He was not looking forward to it. In fact, he prayed in the garden of Gethsemane that God would ‘remove the cup from Him.’ Then Jesus prayed, “Not My will but Thy will be done.”

Jesus needed encouragement and support. We also need encouragement and support. We need to strengthen each other during the inevitable trials that will come into our lives. To that end, Jesus formed His Church, which is His body of believers.

The world hates Jesus. The world hates those who believe in Him. Believers will be increasingly persecuted and need to strengthen and encourage one another to keep the Faith. We need to frequently remind each other what the Bible says: “The one who endures to the end will be saved.”
