In this daily Bible reading Jesus says these words to the people.   “Truly, truly,  I say to you,  He who hears my Word, and believes Him who sent Me, has Eternal Life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.”

Eternal life as defined in the Bible is conditional on a continued belief in God and Jesus Christ. This is confusing  because of the word ‘eternal.’ Many think that at the moment you believe in Jesus you get Eternal Life and cannot lose it. This concept does not harmonize with the rest of the Bible.

The Bible says, “It is difficult to be saved.” The Bible also says that we must “endure to the end of our lives to be saved.” It also speaks of those who fall away.

The Bible further says we must “work out our salvation with fear and trembling.” We therefore cannot be assured of our Salvation because of a one-time profession of Faith.  We must persevere in living rightly before God if we want to go to Heaven.
