In this daily Bible reading the writer speaks of the importance of Faith in one’s life. He writes, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” We live our lives here on earth having and demonstrating faith in many things. For example, we have faith that winter will turn into spring and spring into summer because it has happened that way all of our lives. As a result, we structure our lives to prepare for seasonal activities. We also have faith that day will turn into night and night into day and plan our activities accordingly. We have faith that this will be so because it has been so all of our lives.
However, the Faith of which the writer of Hebrews is speaking is a different kind of Faith. It is Faith in something that is unseen. It is Faith in something that has never before occurred or Faith in something we have never witnessed. Faith in God is that kind of Faith.
The Bible says that Noah built an Ark because God told him to do so. God told Noah that God would one day destroy the Earth with a flood. Noah believed in God, built the Ark, and saved his family. I’m sure he suffered much ridicule from his friends and other people.
The Bible says that there is only one way to Heaven. That way is through our belief in Jesus Christ. It takes real Faith to believe in Jesus Christ. We validate this Faith by living our lives according to the Word of God. The Bible is the Word of God. We must therefore live our lives according to what the Bible tells us in order to be allowed into Heaven after we die.
