In this daily Bible reading Paul tells the Colossians that living the Christian life is a walk. It is a walk which progresses from a life characterized by sin to a life lived for Jesus Christ. Paul tells them that they have become new persons in Christ. Now, they are being renewed to a true knowledge of the Lord. As they are being renewed, the things here on Earth will become less important. They will come to realize that their true home is in Heaven. The Bible says that we should set our minds on things above and not on things here on the earth.
As we are transformed, we are told to put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Additionally, we are to forgive others, just as the Lord has forgiven us through Jesus atoning death on the cross. The Bible says that we should ‘let the Word of Christ richly dwell within us.’ Therefore, we are to be continually aware of Jesus’ teachings and apply them in our lives.
The Bible says that we are to Love God, and we are to love each other. Therefore, we are to be concerned for the welfare of others and not be self-centered. Further, we are to consider others to be more important than ourselves.
When we live according to what God commands of us, our lives will be full and rich with God’s blessings. The Bible says, “Seek first the Lord and his righteousness and the rest will be given to you as well.” Having a good life here on the earth will result from focusing on the Lord and living by His Word, the Bible.
