In this daily Bible reading Paul speaks to the Church in Colossae. Paul tells them that Jesus is the image of the invisible God, and that all things were created through Jesus. Jesus actually created all things both in the heavens and on the earth, invisible and visible. The Bible says, ‘All things have been created by Him and for Him.’  Accordingly, Jesus is much, much more than the humble person who lived in Israel 2000 years ago.

The Bible says that Jesus is God the Son. He is Deity. God the Father is all powerful and has given Jesus godly powers. It is truly amazing that Jesus voluntarily gave up his godly status for a time to live as a man here on the Earth. Most importantly,  He gave up His life to atone for the sins of mankind. He endured severe discomfort and suffering for us that we may be saved from eternal damnation in the flames of Hell.

Jesus came to the earth not only to die for mankind but to form His Church, the body of believers. His shed blood atoned for the sins of those who believe in Him. However, not all people are forgiven of sins. Redemption is conditional. It is conditional on true belief in Jesus evidenced by a life lived in obedience to God.

To that end, God has provided a ‘guide book’ on how to live. This ‘guide book’ is the Bible. It is the only pure Truth in this world. Jesus who is the ‘living Word of God’ is the Truth. Therefore, we must turn to Jesus daily through the Bible in order to live rightly before God.
