This Proverb says, “Better is open rebuke than love that is concealed. Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.” Only a true friend will tell us what we need to hear, even if it is painful. However, an enemy will lie to us for their own personal gain.
A true friend is one who is close to us. A true friend knows us. They know our strengths and our weaknesses. A true friend wants what is best for us. Sometimes this means telling us hard truths that will help us to become a better person.
A true friend will not point out flaws that we cannot change. However if we have a character flaw, a true friend will gently open our eyes to the flaw. This is not easy. It may hurt or sting, but it is something we need to realize.
We cannot change our character flaws unless we first realize that they exist. This may hurt. However, after the hurt diminishes we can purposefully work on removing the flaw. In so doing we will become better people.
