This Proverb says, “Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him. Answer a fool as his folly deserves, lest he be wise in his own eyes.” A fool is a person who does not believe in God. Therefore a fool may try to convince others that God does not exist. This Proverb indicates that we should not answer a fool’s reasoning about God not existing with any notion that encourages the fool.

We should not waver in our belief in God so as to be polite in our response. We certainly should not respond to a fool’s foolish reasoning so as to give him any credence or allowance for being correct. In so doing we would be encouraging a fool. A fool who is encouraged to continue in false belief will even twist our response to support their belief that God doesn’t exist.

A fool will not be convinced about God’s existence. In addition to not believing, a fool does not even want to believe. A fool will refuse to believe even in the face of overwhelming evidence of God’s existence.

A good example of this was a debater defending the Theory of Evolution who was losing the debate. The evidence against evolution was overwhelming. However that person said, “Even though evidence does not support evolution, i cannot and will not believe in God.” His belief was set. His mind was made-up. He simply refused to acknowledge the existence of God.

That is the attitude that believers will face in this world. Therefore, believers must never waiver in their belief in God. They must cling to tenaciously to their belief and refuse to compromise.
