This Proverb says, “Do not weary yourself to gain wealth, cease from your consideration of it. When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings, like an eagle that flies toward Heaven.” Becoming wealthy should not be the focus of our lives. The Bible says, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and the rest will be given to you as well.” Our focus should be on God and living rightly before God. Our focus should be on seeking God’s Truth in His Word and living accordingly.

If our focus in life is on things that endure, we will also be blessed with prosperity in our lives. However, if we focus on gaining wealth it will consume us. It will actually keep us from the Truth. Additionally, if we gain wealth we will not be satisfied with it. It will control us, and we will be in bondage to it.

Furthermore, those who seek wealth without God will not enjoy their wealth. They will just have it. It will not bring them joy. On the other hand when we focus on God, He will enable us to enjoy what we have. The Bible says of the man who fears God, “When you shall eat of the fruit of your hands you will be happy and it will be well with you.” Focusing on God and living rightly will bring much joy and happiness in our lives. That clearly is the better choice.
