This Proverb says, “Do not move the ancient boundaries which your fathers have set.” When I read this passage I think of Israel. Israel’s original boundaries were established after the Exodus from Egypt in approximately 1400 BC. Moses led the Exodus.

Moses successor, Joshua, led Egypt in a conquest of the land of Canaan and destroyed the inhabitants. It took about five years to do so. The land was then apportioned to the 12 tribes of Israel, and boundaries were set.

God’s Promise to Abraham

The Bible says that God had promised the land to Abraham and his descendants around 1900 BC. God had chosen Abraham to be the father of a population that God would nurture and favor. Israel would become that population or nation. God promised to give Abraham’s descendants the land, and God fulfilled that promise through Joshua’s conquest.

God blessed Israel with the land and prosperity. He promised that Israel would continue in the land if they obeyed God’s laws, which God gave to Israel through Moses. Unfortunately, Israel did not obey God’s laws. They turned from God, and God drove them from the land.

However, God preserved a remnant of people who would remain faithful to Him. God promised that He would return them to the land and restore Israel one day.

Today, God is restoring Israel as He promised. In 1948 Israel once again became a nation. However there was much resistance from the Arab world. So, the land to which they returned was a fraction of the original size of the land that Joshua conquered.

Several wars have happened since 1948. During each war, Israel’s boundaries have expanded. However, Israel has not yet been restored to its original boundaries. There is still much resistance from the Arabs and the world in general. However, it is still growing.

The Bible says that God will Restore Israel to its original boundaries. The ancient boundaries will not be moved. I believe this will happen when Jesus returns to be King of Israel one day. I also believe this will happen very soon.
