This Proverb says, “Do not rob the poor because he is poor, or crush the afflicted at the gate; for the Lord will plead their case, and take the life those who robbed them.” It is no small matter in God’s eyes when a person takes advantage of another person who is destitute and poor. As this Proverb says they are taking a chance with their life and putting their eternal destiny at risk.
We are never to take advantage of poor people for personal gain, or any reason for that matter. We are to treat them with kindness and respect.
It seems to me that God has placed some poor people on the Earth to test others and to reveal their hearts. Are they kind hearted and compassionate, or are they cruel and cold? I have experienced both kinds of people.
When Jesus returns to the Earth to rule one day, the Bible says that He will separate the ‘wheat from the chaff.’ The wheat he will gather up into his barn. The chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire. People will be separated according to the choices they have made during their lives. Their choices reveal their hearts and who they really are. In the final judgment they will have no one to blame but themselves if they end up in Hell. God will be just and fair.
