This Proverb says, “He who is gracious to a poor man lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his good deed.” God wants us to be generous and kind to the poor and needy. We must not turn our backs on them when we are in a position to help.
We cannot help all of the poor people in the world. However, God will bring some of them across our path. When that happens we may feel a gentle nudging within us to help. I believe that gentle nudging is God speaking to us.
When we help a poor person, we do so without any motivation for what we will receive from that person. Poor people have nothing to materially give us. Therefore our motivation is compassion. That compassion is from God.
As this Proverb indicates, God will repay our kindness toward the poor person. Indeed, we will receive much more than we gave. The Bible says that our the generosity toward the needy will be abundantly repaid. We will feel joy and happiness for helping another person. We will also receive blessings for our kindness. More importantly, we will be on the pathway that leads to Heaven.
