In this daily Bible reading Peter tells believers to not be anxious for Jesus’ return. In Peter’s day, many were mocking the notion of Jesus returning to the Earth. Much time had passed since Jesus was crucified. Unbelievers were mocking Christians who were waiting for Jesus to return. Peter told them not to be anxious. He said to them, “With the Lord, a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as a day.” Peter said to them that Jesus will indeed return, and his return will be characterized as “The day of the Lord.” The Bible says that when Jesus returns, He will be King of the entire Earth.
The Bible also says that Jesus will rule as King for 1000 years. I believe that this thousand-year reign is “The day of the Lord.” Using this reasoning it has been almost 2000 years since Jesus was crucified. In God’s time frame if 1000 years is as a day, then it has been about two of God’s days since Jesus was crucified. The Bible says that Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after His crucifixion. I, therefore, believe that Jesus will return to the Earth very soon, exactly 2000 years after he was crucified. There is good evidence that Jesus was crucified around 33 A.D. Therefore 2033 may well be the year that Jesus returns.
Peter told Christians to be ready for Jesus’ return. Therefore, we should really be diligent in our preparation for Jesus’ return to the Earth. Jesus could return during our lifetime
