In this daily Bible reading the Apostle Peter gives his fellow believers guidance on how to live their lives. Peter says the following to them: “In your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge; and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.” Peter goes on to say, “As long as you practice these things you will never stumble; for in this way the entrance into the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.”
The qualities that Peter listed lead to love, true love for both God and fellow believers; and practicing these qualities will yield fruit in one’s life. God will examine the fruit in our lives to see if our fruit is good or bad.
The Bible says that unless we abide in Jesus we cannot bear good fruit. The Bible also says that Jesus is the Word of God. Therefore, we abide in Jesus by abiding in the Word of God, the Bible. The Bible must be our guiding light as to how we live. It will guide us to have Faith, moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and ultimately, love. The Bible says that possessing these qualities will lead us to Heaven.
