In this daily Bible reading Paul writes the Corinthian church to collect a monetary gift for the Macedonians, which they had previously promised. Paul said, “He who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall also reap abundantly. Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver.”
I have found in my life that when I give generously and joyfully to a cause or a person that God has placed in my life, I am blessed. I receive much more than I gave. Giving generously produces joy in my heart. I also look forward to opportunities to give, trusting in God.
There are many poor people in this world. I don’t believe we are called to help them all, but we are called to help some of them. Situations occur from day to day that give us these opportunities. I believe that God will urge us to help those that He wants us to help. God will also supply the means to continue to be generous.
The Bible also says that we are to be good stewards of what God has given to us. We have brains, and we must not be foolish in our giving. We must be aware of the ever present scams today and should test the things that we can test. However, i believe we should err on the side of generosity and trust God to guide us.
