In this daily Bible reading Paul tells the Corinthian church to measure themselves by the Word of God rather than each other. Paul says, “When they measure themselves by themselves, and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding.” There is only one Truth, one standard for living, and that is the Word of God, the Bible.

Mankind has the tendency to try and justify sin. People will seek others who affirm their sinful lifestyle. They will reject the Bible’s guidance regarding their sins. They may say that the Bible is out of date, or that it was wrongly translated from the original languages.

The sin in peoples’ lives is powerful, and their desire is to justify it. Some who live in a sinful lifestyle have even formed churches that do not condemn their sin, but rather affirm it. These people are measuring themselves by themselves and are not measuring themselves by the Truth, God’s Word.

God’s Word is the only standard. It is our only source of Truth. The Bible says, “For not he who commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends.” Denying God’s Truths will not nullify them. When God’s final judgment comes for us, we will only have ourselves to blame.
