In this daily Bible reading Paul tells Timothy  that “the love of money is the root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the Faith.” The Bible says that one cannot love both God and money. It is an either/or choice. It is not the money that is bad. Rather it is our attitude towards money. Becoming rich is not a bad thing, but it is insidious. Our focus may turn away from God to manage our riches.

If we become rich, we must have the attitude that losing the money will not be a disaster. We must also be very generous, giving and sharing with others who are in need.  Additionally, we should be joyful in our giving.  We should delight in those opportunities to give to others in need, knowing that this is the attitude that God desires in us.  Further, we must trust God to provide for us what we need, being content to live with much or with little. We must also hold all of our possessions very loosely knowing that God gives and God takes away.

We must always be cognizant of the fact that we brought nothing into the world, and we will take nothing with us when we die. Our focus therefore should be on our permanent home beyond this life and not let this life distract us from what is really important.
