In this daily Bible reading Paul tells Timothy of the requirements to become an overseer of a particular church. Among these requirements is that the overseers must not be a new convert to the Faith. A new convert may truly believe.  However,  he or she will not be firmly established in the Faith. Satan is continually attempting to destroy God’s Church, and a new convert does not have the tools to stand against evil and to resist Satan’s deceptive ploys.

The journey of Faith is indeed a journey.  Accordingly, it takes time to become strong in the Faith. Therefore, the Word of God must become a part of us. God’s laws must be ‘written in our hearts.’

Believers in Paul’s day had the letters of the Apostles who learned from Jesus to guide them. Today those letters have been preserved in the Bible. I believe the Bible is essential to one’s growth in the Faith. Without the Bible, we are lost and don’t know how to live. Additionally, we are susceptible to false teachers who Satan employs to lead people astray and away from God. Without the Bible we will be subject to superstition and going through religious rituals.

I believe that the Bible is absolutely essential to one’s Salvation journey through life. The Bible says that God’s Word is a ‘lamp to our feet and a light to our path.’ Without the Bible, we will stumble and fall. Worse, God may not  allow us into Heaven after we die.
