In these passages, Peter writes to the Jews who have been scattered to other countries. He is specifically speaking to those who have been chosen by God for salvation. The Bible says that God has identified those who will be allowed into His Kingdom. The Bible calls these people, the elect. The Bible also says that God identified these people before they were born. Nobody, including the Angels, know who these people are. The Bible says all of creation is waiting for the revealing of the sons of God.
Many in the Christian community think that they are going to Heaven. They are taught that their Salvation is assured. The Bible does not teach this. The Bible teaches that we must be hopeful that we will be allowed into Heaven. We cannot know if we are God’s elect, but we can have a healthy hope that we are.
The Bible indicates some of the characteristics of God’s elect. First of all, these people live by Faith. They trust in God and look for His guidance. These people delight in the Word of God, the Bible. They believe it to be Truth and they read it frequently. The Bible sustains them and guides them. The Bible also indicates that God’s elect love God more than worldly possessions. Their hearts are set on God rather than money. God’s elect are also very generous.
The Bible tells us to test ourselves to see if we are in the Faith. We should do that to determine if we are on the right path and may be of God’s elect.
