In these passages is the account of Ahijah, the prophet, prophesying to King Jeroboam’s wife. Ahijah prophesied the future removal of Israel from the land because of the sins they committed under King Jeroboam. Jeroboam had established two golden calves for the people to worship, to prevent them from going to Jerusalem to worship.
Jeroboam, therefore, caused Israel to turn away from God. About 180 years later, in 722 BC, Israel was taken captive by the Assyrians and removed from the land. They were replaced by the Samaritans and never returned to the land.
Judah was also removed for their sins around 587 BC by the Babylonians, but they returned 70 years later. Judah was again removed by the Romans around 130 A.D.
The Bible says that God will restore them to the land, and He is doing so as we speak. Israel was re-established as a state in May 1948, and the Jewish population continues to return and occupy the land.
The Bible also says that God will one day give them a new heart to worship God and believe in Jesus Christ. It is marvelous to witness these prophecies taking place in my lifetime.
