In this daily Bible reading the Prophet Zechariah speaks one of the prophecies of Jesus entering the world the first time: “Behold your King is coming to you; He is endowed with salvation, humble and merciful on a donkey.” When Jesus made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem the day before he was crucified, He came from the Mount of olives and was mounted on a donkey.

The crowd highly favored Jesus and seemed intent on making Jesus their King. However, the religious leaders of the day, the Jewish Pharisees, resisted this.  They rapidly turned the people against Jesus and orchestrated Jesus’ death on a Roman cross.

The Bible says that Jesus will return to the Earth one day. However, He will not be mounted on a donkey. He will return with great glory.  Jesus will descend from the sky to the place from which he ascended to Heaven in bodily form: The Mount of Olives just to the east of Jerusalem.

When Jesus returns, the Earth will be in great turmoil. Jerusalem will be controlled by the leader of the resurrected Roman Empire. The Bible says that Jesus will destroy this person and his army. Jesus will then take control of Jerusalem and establish His Kingdom on the Earth.
