In this daily Bible reading Zechariah is given a vision of the ‘end times’ and God’s coming judgment to remove sin that is so pervasive on the Earth. Zechariah is shown a scroll that was flying in the sky. He is told that the scroll represented the curse that is going over the face of the whole land. Everyone who steals will be purged according to the writing on one side and everyone who swears will be purged away according to the writing on the other side.
I believe that the scroll represents the Word of God which clearly tells us how to live, and it clearly identifies sins that we are to avoid. The Word of God, the Bible, is God’s guidance for mankind and provides a roadmap to Heaven. It also defines the paths that lead to Hell. God has given mankind the freedom to choose which path to follow. Many have chosen to live sinful lives and follow the ‘broad path’ that leads to Hell. God will purge these people from the Earth, as He prepares the Earth for Jesus’ return.
Mankind is without excuse. The Bible’s instructions are clear. The consequences of sin and the blessings of obedience to God are clear. We must therefore choose carefully which path we will follow. In the end, we will have none to blame but ourselves, because we will have made the choice.
