In this daily Bible reading God tells Zechariah that Israel wandered away from God because they were led astray by the leadership who listened to false prophets. The priests were influenced by visions provided by demonic forces. They were not discerning as to the source of these visions, and they believed the demons rather than God. Unfortunately, the people believed the priests and false prophets and were led to worship idols.
Why were the priests and false prophets deceived? I believe they were deceived because they were not firmly anchored in the Word of God. They had access to the books written by Moses. However, they probably didn’t read them or believe them. If they had read them, they would know from God’s 10 Commandments that they were only to worship the one true God. They were clearly told not to worship idols.
The Bible says that in the end times, Satanic deceptions will increase. God will allow this to happen in order to separate believers from nonbelievers. These deceptions will be quite powerful with great signs and miracles. Those who are not firmly anchored in the Word of God will be easily influenced by this. However, true believers who are anchored in God’s Word will not be so deceived. They will cling to the Truth at any cost.
