In this daily Bible reading Paul tells Titus that it is because of God’s mercy that people are saved from spiritual destruction. It is not due to their good deeds. However, when we are saved from destruction our salvation will be evidenced by good deeds.
Paul said that ‘we are justified by God’s grace that we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.’ It is like an entry gate to a pathway that leads to Heaven, depending on our choices. We are not guaranteed entry into Heaven. Rather we have a healthy hope that we will get there. The pathway is not easy and Satan will try to push us off the path. But if we arm ourselves with the Word of God we will be able to resist Satan and cling to the Truth. However, we must know the Truth in order to cling to it.
I believe that the Bible, which is the Word of God, is absolutely essential to remain on the pathway that leads to Heaven. The Bible says that Jesus is the only way to Heaven. We have to read the Bible to know what that means. We cannot know who Jesus is without reading the Bible. Therefore, we cannot really believe in Jesus unless we know who He is. Unless we rightly characterize Jesus we cannot rightly believe in Him. Only the Bible will provide us with the Truth and proper instruction, but we must choose to read it.
