In this daily Bible reading Jesus speaks to the Apostle John regarding the words that John was recording from his visions of the end times and the words that Jesus provided to John. Jesus tells John that nobody is to add words or take away words from the prophecy provided to John. In this regard, Jesus said: “If anyone adds to them, God shall add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall remove his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which is written in this book.”

I believe that Jesus is referring to the book of Revelation.  However, In a broader sense I believe Jesus is referring to the entire Word of God, the Bible.

The Bible has been attacked over the centuries.  Additionally, various professed Christian organizations have tried to modify or change it.  However, the Bible has survived.

Here are three examples of attempted Bible modification or additional guidance.  First, the Jehovah’s Witnesses modified the beginning of the book of John.  They did this to support this church’s doctrine that Jesus is not ‘God the Son.’  Secondly, the Mormons created the ‘Book of Mormon’ which they say takes precedence over the Bible. Thirdly, the Catholics have their catechism which gives extra-biblical guidance on how to live.

As Jesus said, these organizations will be judged for modifying God’s Truths. God’s Word is complete.  No additional guidance is needed.
