In this daily Bible reading the Apostle John sees a vision of the new Jerusalem descending from Heaven. After ‘the great throne judgment’ of God, the new Jerusalem will appear. It will be a glorious city and massive in size. It will be cube-shaped with each side measuring 1500 miles. Imagine a cube with the length of one side being like the distance from Seattle to Chicago. God will reside there. Jesus will reside there. Furthermore, all the people allowed into Heaven will reside there. It will be a brilliant city. God’s radiance will continuously provide light for the city.
The new Jerusalem will have 12 gates: three on the east, three on the north, three on the south, and three on the west. Each gate will have the name of one of the 12 tribes of Israel. Additionally, the city will have 12 foundation stones, each having the name of one of the 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ. Furthermore, the city will be pure gold but like clear glass. The walls will be made of Jasper, and each of the foundation stones will be adorned with every kind of precious stone.
The people who live in the new Jerusalem will never die. There will no longer be any mourning, crying, or pain. Accordingly, it will truly be a glorious place to live. It will be well worth the effort to remain obedient to God and walk according to His Word.
