In this Psalm David speaks of blessings that God provides to a land in which the righteous dwell. He also speaks of the land in which those who rebel against God dwell. David says, “Only the rebellious dwell in a parched land.”
Referring to the land and which the righteous dwell David says, “Thou didst send abroad a plentiful rain, O God. Thou didst confirm Thine inheritance when it was parched. Thy creatures settled in it. Thou didst provide in Thy goodness for the poor, O God.”
When Israel obeyed God, their land was characterized as a ‘land of milk and honey.’ Israel’s crops were bountiful, and their herds of animals thrived. Israel’s land was beautiful and a pleasant place to live.
However, when Israel turned from God, God withheld the rain. The land suffered from severe drought. Crops and animals died. Israel became a desert wasteland.
Today, Israel is becoming beautiful again. Irrigation has restored much of the cropland. The Bible says that Israel will continue to improve. When Jesus returns, the land will once again be characterized as a ‘land of milk and honey.’
