In these passages David writes, “Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.” The life of a believer is a transition from evil to good. Our natural human tendency is to sin and to do what the Bible characterizes as evil.
When we start down the road towards Heaven we are transformed from evil to good. It is not a natural transition. It requires choice, purpose, and perseverance. Furthermore, It requires awareness of our natural and sinful nature. We should always realize that we can slip backward and return to our sinful life.
The Bible says that we must persevere. We must endure to the end of our lives to be saved. The Bible also says that if a righteous person turns back to a sinful life, then none of their righteous acts will be remembered. They will be judged for their spiritual condition when they die.
Some churches teach that we cannot lose our position or favor. This belief may remove a person’s motivation to live rightly. Tragically, that teaching may lead a person to Hell.
