In this Psalm David again prays to God. David says, “I have kept from the paths of the violent. My steps have held fast to Thy path. My feet have not slipped.” David chose to walk the path of obedience to God.
God, through Moses, had given Israel guidance on how to live. For example, God dictated the 10 Commandments to Moses on Mount Sinai. God also provided specific guidance in right living for many situations in life. God said that living according to God’s guidance would result in many blessings. He also said that defying Him and living contrary to His guidance would result in many curses and afflictions.
God’s guidance and rules are clear. However, living our life according to them takes effort. It also involves making a choice to reject the world’s values. Following God’s path means to live contrary to what the world teaches. More importantly, living according to God’s guidance means to turn away from sin. That is not easy to do.
Our natural tendency is to sin. Sin gives us physical pleasures. Sin also leads to pain and death both physically and spiritually. We must therefore choose. Following God’s path will lead to life, both spiritually and physically. It is the right choice.
