In this Proverb, Wisdom speaks and says, “For by me, your days will be multiplied, and years of life will be added to you. If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, and if you scoff, you alone will bear it.” A person who is wise and living according to the Word of God will have physical benefits such as good health and long life.
The Bible says of those who believe, “Those who wait for the Lord will mount up with wings like Eagles. They will run and not grow tired. They will walk and not become weary.” The Bible also says, “They will still yield fruit in old age, they shall be full of sap and very green.”
Having good health and strength result when one believes in God’s Word, lives rightly before God, and turns away from sin. On the other hand, a person who lives in sin will experience poor health and have many afflictions. Such a person will not live long. The drug industry flourishes in this world because of the many people who sin and have diseases and injuries.
As this Proverb indicates, each person will bear the benefits or the pain of their decisions and choices in life. If they believe in God and live accordingly, they will benefit. However, if they don’t believe in God and scoff at the Word of God, they alone will bear the pain of their own poor choices.
