This Proverb says, “There are six things which the Lord hates, yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run rapidly to evil, a false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife among brothers.”

The Bible tells us that God is love. However there are things that God hates. Foremost in that list is ‘haughty eyes’ or pride. The Bible says that God favors humility over pride. In fact, the Bible specifically says that those who exalt themselves will be humbled. Whereas, those who humble themselves will be exalted.

When Jesus lived on the Earth as a man He was the picture of humility. He did not exalt himself. Rather, He served others. He taught his disciples to love and to serve others. His message to us is the same. We are to love and serve each other.

The Jews in Jesus day rejected Jesus as the Messiah because they believed the Messiah would be powerful and represent glory rather than humility. Their scripture indicated this. However there were other scripture passages that prophesied about Jesus being humble. The Jews did not focus on these passages.

The Bible does say that Jesus will return in glory to judge the living and the dead. He will become King and His Kingdom will have no end. That glorious day is coming soon. He will indeed be powerful and mighty. However, He will embody love and compassion.
