This Proverb says, “The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines brighter and brighter until the full day. The way of the wicked is like darkness. They do not know over what they stumble.” The wicked people walk in darkness because they reject God. Accordingly, they reject the Word of God, the Bible. They also reject Jesus.

The Bible characterizes Jesus as light. It also characterizes Jesus as the living Word of God. Living one’s life according to the Word of God is like living in light. King David said of God’s Word, “Thy Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

David knew that God’s Word would illuminate for him the way he should proceed in his life. God’s Word also illuminated the pitfalls and the obstacles that would cause him to stumble. Therefore, he was able to avoid them.

Wicked people do not have the light of God to illuminate the path before them. Therefore, they do not see the obstacles and pitfalls before them. So, they stumble and fall.

The Bible says that the wicked will be cast Into darkness after they die because they preferred the darkness of evil during their lives. On the other hand, the righteous preferred light. Therefore, they will be allowed into the light of God’s presence after they die.
