This Proverb says, “I have directed you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in upright paths. When you walk, your steps will not be impeded; And if you run you will not stumble. Take hold of instruction; Do not let go. Guard her for she is your life.”
In this Proverb Solomon continues to give his son sound advice in how to live. Solomon’s advice can be applied to living according to the Word of God, the Bible. The Bible provides sound guidance in how to conduct one’s life. This guidance will keep a person on a solid path that will lead to life.
However, the world’s values will try to divert a person to a different path. The world’s path will lead to spiritual death. As humans we have a natural tenancy to follow the world’s path rather than the Bible’s path. We have a natural tendency or desire to sin and please the ‘flesh.’ We must fight this desire to avoid the path that leads to spiritual death.
Jesus said, “Enter through the narrow gate; For the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
Living one’s life according to the Bible’s guidance will lead a person to the narrow gate that leads to life. Living by the world’s values will lead a person down the broad way and the wide gate to destruction. We all must choose which path we will follow. The choice is ours. So is the result of our choice.
