This Proverb says, “An angry man stirs up strife, and a hot-tempered man abounds in transgression.” Generally speaking, anger is counterproductive. Nothing good comes from unrestrained anger.
All of us may become angry at times in our life. However, we must not let anger control us. We must control it. We should never speak or act in our moments of anger. Rather, we should calm down before acting or speaking. Otherwise, the results will be bad for both us and for the other person.
The angry man in this Proverb is one who does not control his anger. Therefore, his anger will stir up strife and promote contention between people. This person is like a rotten apple in a barrel contaminating other people with anger.
The Bible indicates that it is unlikely for an angry person to be allowed into Heaven. Jesus said in his Sermon on the Mount, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” This Bible passage characterizes those who will be allowed into Heaven as sons of God. Jesus’ words indicate that an angry person does not fit into that category.
Therefore, if we have a tendency to be angry during our daily life, we must learn to control that anger. The Bible says that when we believe in Jesus, God will give us his Holy Spirit to dwell within us. We will be blessed with the fruits of God’s spirit. One of those fruits is self-control. With God’s Holy Spirit we will learn to control our anger. We will then be on a pathway that may lead us to Heaven.
