This Proverb says, “My son, eat honey, for it is good, yes, the honey from the cone is sweet to your taste. Know that wisdom is thus for your soul. If you find it, then there will be a future and your life will not be cut off.” Wisdom is extremely valuable. Having wisdom is more valuable than having great material wealth.
What is wisdom? It is knowing how to make good decisions in life. Wisdom is knowing the right choices to make. Wisdom looks beyond temporary pleasures and measures outcomes. Wisdom is knowing the impact of decisions we make in life.
How do we acquire wisdom? Unfortunately, we are not born with wisdom inside of us. We must acquire wisdom during our lives. The Bible says, “The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.” Therefore, we will not gain wisdom unless and until we believe in God.
Conversely, the Bible says, “The fool has said in his heart there is no God.” The opposite of wisdom is foolishness.
Therefore, the pivotal event that determines if we will be wise is our decision to believe or not to believe in God. Unfortunately, we are not born with a belief in God. We must acquire that belief during our lives.
How then does one come to believe in God? It is helpful if one is born into a family that believes in God. However, a person who has parents who do not believe in God must gain belief by other means.
Belief can come by carefully observing the world around us. Creation itself speaks of God. His creation and the processes that sustain that creation are miraculous. Belief can also come by associating with others who believe in God. I believe that God will orchestrate events in each person’s life to give them a reason and an opportunity to believe in Him. Each person must then make a choice.
