This Proverb says, “How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen above silver.” Spiritual wealth is far more valuable than physical wealth. Physical wealth may last for a lifetime. Whereas, spiritual wealth lasts for eternity. Physical wealth is gained through many means: inheritance, hard work or dishonesty, to name a few. Spiritual wealth can only be gained through belief in God and Jesus Christ.
The Bible says that ‘the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.’ The fear of God is also the beginning of understanding. Having wisdom and understanding will enable a person to have a good life. It will also enable a person to have physical wealth. Moreover, such a person will know how to use their wealth in a prudent manner.
The Bible articulates the benefits of having wisdom and understanding in the following passage: “By wisdom a house is built. Through understanding it is established. Through knowledge are its rooms filled with rare and beautiful treasures.”
Wisdom and understanding are only gained through belief in God. They are maintained through the Word of God, the Bible. The Bible provides true knowledge. God enables those who believe in Him to understand the Bible’s Truths.
God also enables believers to apply this knowledge and understanding with wisdom to live their lives well. More importantly, having wisdom and understanding will enable a person to successfully navigate the pathway that leads to Heaven.
