These passages contain two Proverbs. The first Proverb says, “The path of life leads upward for the wise, that he may keep away from Sheol below.” The Bible says that there are two possible destinations for all human beings after they die. Some will go to Heaven. The others will go to Hell. Heaven has been defined as a glorious place of paradise above the Earth. Whereas, Hell is described as a dark and foreboding place deep within the Earth. The Bible also characterizes Hell as Sheol.

The Bible says that those who believe in God and Jesus Christ and lead their lives according to the Word of God will go to Heaven. Whereas, those who do not believe in God and reject God’s Word will go to Hell. The Bible characterizes those who believe in God as being wise. Therefore, the path of life will lead upward for the wise. They will keep away from Sheol below.

The second proverb says, “The Lord will tear down the house of the proud, but He will establish the boundary of the widow.” The Bible says that God hates pride. It was pride that led Satan to rebel against God. It is pride that keeps people from believing in God.

A proud person may think that they are well established with their possessions on the Earth. However, their possessions are temporary. When they die, they will have nothing. Worse, when they die  they will not be allowed into Heaven. They will spend eternity in darkness.

On the other hand, the humble and poor person who believes in God will be secure. The Bible says that God will protect the humble people who believe in Him. More importantly, God will allow them into Heaven after they die. They will spend eternity in paradise.
