These passages contain three Proverbs. The first Proverb says, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” A person does not have to be loud or angry to be effective. Quite the contrary. An emotional or angry response will promote anger and sustain an argument. Whereas, a gentle answer with well thought out words will be heard by the other person. Such a response will actually defuse an angry situation and promote harmony and peace. Therefore, we should control our anger and pause before we respond. That will give us time to formulate a good and gentle response.

The second Proverb says, “The tongue of the wise makes knowledge acceptable, but the mouth of fools sports folly.” Wisdom is a gift from God. A person can only be wise through belief in God and knowing the Word of God. A wise person is able to apply their Biblical knowledge in an acceptable manner to others. Such a person will not force God’s Truths on other people. However, they will be prepared to offer wise counsel as circumstances may allow. Knowledge offered in this manner will be acceptable and appreciated. It will also provide spiritual nourishment where needed.

The third Proverb says, “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, watching the evil and the good.” the Bible says that God is so powerful that He knows our thoughts, words, and deeds. God has given each of us one life in which to become people that He will allow into Heaven after we die. God has given each of us freedom to choose between right and wrong, good and evil.  He has provided ample evidence of His existence. He has also given us His Word in our the form of the Bible to guide us down the path of life. However, we must choose which path we will take. God is watching. Which path will you choose?
