This Proverb says, “Leave the presence of a fool, or you will not discern words of knowledge.”

It is difficult to gain understanding and wisdom when one is in the presence of a fool. This is because a fool’s worldview is contrary to God’s Word, the Bible. So, when a fool hears words from God’s Truth, they mock and ridicule them. They openly reject words of wisdom.

Therefore, if a person is in the presence of a fool when the Truth is proclaimed, the fool will try to counter those words of Truth and wisdom with their own foolish viewpoints. They silence any attempt to consider or discuss words of Truth. As a result, it is difficult to digest and consider God’s Truth, spoken in the presence of a fool.

In my opinion, a person who believes God’s Word should avoid regular association with those who reject the Word of God. Rather, a person who believes God’s Word to be Truth should seek out other believers with whom to regularly associate. Then, when words of Truth are spoken they can be contemplated and discussed. With this environment a person’s knowledge will grow. As a result, their pathway toward Heaven will be illuminated.
