These passages say, “Even in laughter the heart may be in pain, and the end of joy may be grief. The backslider in heart will have his fIll of his own ways, but a good man will be satisfied with his.”

The first passage indicates that a person may appear to be joyful on the outside. However, they may also be sorrowful on the inside. Such is the condition of those who do not believe in God or Jesus Christ. Although, those who believe in God and Jesus Christ may also have events in their lives that bring them sorrow. However, there is a significant difference in how believers and non-believers respond to their sorrows.

Those who believe in God have hope for their future. Whereas, non-believers do not. This hope gives believers joy. The Bible says that when we believe in Jesus Christ that God will give us the fruits of the Holy Spirit. One of those fruits is joy, real joy. Believers are given a joy which surpasses all understanding. Non-believers do not have this joy.

The second passage indicates that both believers and non-believers will reap what they sow. They will get what they deserve. Believers want to be with God, and they live their lives according to the Word of God. As a result, God will allow believers to be with Him in paradise after they die. However, non-believers do not believe in God. They do not want God in their lives. As a result they will be separated from God for all eternity. After they die, their destination will be Hell with misery and pain forever.
