This Proverb says, “Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles, but the one who gathers by labor increases it.”

The person who gathers his wealth by labor gathers slowly. As a result, they learn how to use it, manage it and protect it. Such knowledge doesn’t come instantly. It must be learned over time. Once a person has gained this knowledge and experience, they will better understand how to grow their wealth and make wise financial decisions.

On the other hand, a person who obtains wealth hastily or fraudulently does not have the experience to manage their wealth. As a result, they will use their wealth foolishly and be vulnerable to scams. There are stories of lottery winners who have ended up in worse financial shape than others who didn’t win the lottery.

The principle illustrated by this Proverb can also be applied to spiritual wealth. Spiritual wealth is not gained in one sitting. Rather, it is gained over a lifetime. The Bible speaks of some people who have enthusiastically accepted God’s word and expressed their belief in Jesus Christ. However, when trials came into their lives, they turned away from God’s guidance and back to the world’s values. In this regard, they lose their momentary spiritual wealth.

However, the Bible speaks of others who hear God’s Word and believe it. They repent of their sins and accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. More importantly, they persevere in their Faith and endure the trials of life. They remain faithful to God’s Word and have true spiritual wealth when they die.
