This Proverb says, “There is one who scatters, yet increases all the more, and there is one who withholds what is justly due, but it results only in want. The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered.”
Living our lives according to the Word of God is frequently contrary to our natural and sinful nature. However, doing what the Bible tells us to do will result in blessings in our life. Being generous and giving is but in one example.
We humans are naturally selfish and want to hold our possessions closely. So, it is not natural to give others what is ours. However, that is precisely what God wants us to do; and He will bless us for our obedience to Him.
The Bible says, “Give and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.” We will receive much more than we give to others.
However, getting should not be our motivation for giving. Our motivation should be that we want to please God and draw closer to Him. Achieving that is far more valuable than gaining physical wealth.
When we give to others we should do so generously and joyfully. The Bible says, “He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
When we obey God with joy in our heart, God will increase our joy and our blessings will abound. That is the way to live.
