This Proverb says, “Doing wickedness is like sport to a fool; and so is wisdom to a man of understanding.”

A fool is one who doesn’t believe in God. Therefore a fool rejects the Bible as being false or irrelevant. As a result, a fool is given over to their natural and sinful nature. Their thoughts, words and deeds are always wicked.

A fool loves to sin and continually indulges in sin. All of their thoughts, words, and deeds are contrary to the Word of God. Wickedness is therefore like sport to a fool. Their lives are motivated and dedicated to wickedness.

On the other hand, a man of understanding is one who believes in God and lives according to God’s Word, the Bible. This person loves the Bible and believes what it says. The Bible nourishes such a person spiritually. Therefore, this person’s thoughts, words and deeds are according to the Word of God, the Bible.

A man of understanding also seeks wisdom. This person desires to rightly apply what they have learned from God’s Words. He or she rejects sinful thoughts. They also choose their words carefully so as to encourage and help others. Their actions are done according to the Word of God.

Indeed, seeking wisdom is like sport or a preferred activity to the person of understanding. Their approach to life will keep them on the path that leads to Heaven. Whereas, a fool’s approach to life will lead them to Hell.
