In this daily Bible reading is the account of God taking some of His Spirit from Moses and placing it on 70 elders of Israel. Moses had told God that the burden God had placed on Moses was too great for Moses to bear.

God listened to Moses, and told Moses to select 70 elders who Moses trusted to make good decisions on behalf of the people. These elders would assist Moses in Moses’ duties before God. God then endowed these elders with His Holy Spirit to guide them in their decisions.

The Bible says that those who believe in Jesus Christ are given God’s Holy Spirit to abide in them. The Bible also says that believers are blessed with the ‘fruits of the Holy Spirit.’ These include love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Evidently, God wanted the 70 elders to have these characteristics in order to represent God well.

Endowed with these characteristics the elders would represent God well and be reliable decision-makers for the people. They could be trusted by the people to act in their best interest.

So, it is with the believers today. They treat others well and strive to act in the best interest of those they encounter from day to day.
