In this daily Bible reading is the account of a Roman Centurion, a commander of 100 soldiers, coming to Jesus with a request. The Centurion told Jesus that his servant was lying paralyzed at home and suffering in great pain. He asked Jesus to heal his servant. Jesus said to the Centurion that Jesus would go to the Centurion’s home and heal the servant.

However, the Centurion replied that he was not worthy to have Jesus in his house. Rather the Centurion said to Jesus, ”Just say the word, and my servant will be healed.” The Centurion had great Faith in Jesus, and Jesus did indeed heal the servant from afar. Jesus marveled at the Centurion’s Faith in Jesus. The Centurion was a Gentile, not a Jew.

Jesus had primarily come to the Earth to save the Jews who had turned from God. However, most of the Jews had rejected Him. Jesus said that because of their unbelief many Jews would not be allowed into Heaven. However, the Gentiles who demonstrated their Faith in Jesus would be allowed to enter Heaven.

The Bible says, “The Gospel is the power of God for salvation to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” The Jews are God’s chosen race. However,  God will save anybody who believes in Jesus Christ and demonstrates that belief by the life they lead.
