In this daily Bible reading Jesus continues his ‘Sermon on the mount.’ His message was that we should not practice our righteousness before men to be praised by men. Rather, we should practice our righteousness in private to be praised by God. If we seek to be praised by men, then that will be our reward. But if we practice our righteousness in private, God will bless us.

Jesus also said that we should not set our hearts on worldly possessions. Rather, we should set our hearts on Heavenly treasures. Material possessions will fade away, but Heavenly treasures will last forever.

Jesus also pointed out that we cannot love both money and God. They are mutually exclusive. We can love money or we can love God. It is an important choice that each of us must make in our lives.

Regarding material possessions, the Bible says, “Seek first the His kingdom and His righteousness and the all these things will be added to you.” The Bible indicates that we will prosper when we strive to obey God. However, our prosperity will be secondary to our love of God. With the right priorities, we will live full and satisfying lives. With the wrong priorities, our lives will be filled with anxiety and fears. Therefore, we must focus on God and be guided by His Word.
