In this daily Bible reading is the account of Jesus’ crucifixion. The exact time that Jesus was placed on the cross is unspecified. However, the Bible says that Jesus died at the 9th hour which is 3 PM. While Jesus was on the cross the people mocked Him. The priests also mocked Him, saying that if Jesus really was the Son of God, God would save Him. That would seem logical. However, they didn’t know the real reason that God allowed Jesus to be crucified.
God’s purpose was to provide a sacrifice for the sins of mankind. Jesus was free of sin and was God’s perfect sacrifice to atone for sin. The Bible says, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” God did not want mankind to be separated from Him forever. However, mankind’s sins would separate people from God. God is Holy and will not coexist with sin.
Jesus’ shed blood atoned for the sins of those who would believe in Jesus. Those who truly believe in Jesus will be allowed to exist with God forever because their sins are forgiven. Their sins are removed. Most of the world does not believe this. The Bible says that unbelievers will be doomed to an eternity in Hell. However, God will allow believers to live with Him in Heaven forever.
