In this daily Bible reading is the account of Jesus returning to His hometown, Nazareth, with His disciples. The people in Nazareth knew Jesus, who had been a carpenter. They also knew Jesus’ human brothers and sisters. Jesus had at least 6 siblings.

Jesus taught in the Nazareth synagogue, and the people were amazed at His wisdom and teaching. They were also aware of miracles He had performed elsewhere. However, because the people knew Jesus as a human and witnessed His growing from a child to a man, they were reluctant to believe that He was the Messiah, sent by God. Because of their lack of Faith, Jesus could not perform many miracles in Nazareth.

This illustrates the importance of Faith and belief for healing to occur. Jesus will heal our spiritual sicknesses if we have Faith in Him. Belief in Jesus is essential to our being transformed or sanctified from a life of sin to a life of walking rightly before God. We must repent of our sins and believe in Jesus.

We must also believe, as the Bible says, that Jesus is the living Word of God. The entire Bible speaks of Jesus and characterizes Him. For our belief to have any meaning we must know who Jesus is. Reading the Bible is the only way to know Jesus.
